The collection contains the performance library and organizational papers of the Bach Aria Group, founded in 1946 by William Scheide, , whose charter was to promote the study and performance of the music of J.S. Bach. Samuel Baron directed the ensemble for many years, from 1980-1997. Contains 6,000 papers, 1,000 photos, and 300 pieces of printed music.

Flutist Samuel Baron (1925-1997) was a founding member of the New York Woodwind Quintet, and appeared as soloist with noted orchestras and on recordings. Especially identified with the music of Bach, Baron was a member of the Bach Aria Group before taking over as director in 1980. Baron championed new music, too, and gave premieres of works by Barber, Blackwood, Boulez, Brant, Korte, Kupferman, Laderman, and Riegger.
